Get Ready To Return To The Further

Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth part in the horror franchise, aims to emphasize its return to its origins. The latest trailer showcases the reappearance of a familiar antagonist, solidifying this intention.

The movie revisits the Lambert family, known from the first two films, as Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne reprise their roles as Josh and Renai. Joining them is Ty Simpkins, who returns as their son Dalton, now portrayed as a grown-up character. Notably, Ty Simpkins has since appeared in movies like Jurassic World and The Whale.

Despite Dalton’s lack of recollection of past events, he finds himself plagued by horrifying nightmares. Recognizing the reemergence of supernatural terrors wreaking havoc, Josh and Renai come to the realization that they must disclose the truth to their son. It becomes evident that they have no alternative, particularly considering the circumstances.

In the latest Insidious 5 trailer, tension escalates as a gripping scene unfolds. Josh finds himself under attack by a demon, rapidly crawling towards him within the confines of an MRI machine. The intensity of the moment is palpable, capturing viewers’ attention.

Towards the conclusion of the footage, the beloved antagonist from the initial film, known as the Lipstick-Face Demon, makes a highly anticipated comeback. The reappearance of this fan-favorite character adds an extra layer of intrigue and excitement.

Since its introduction in the first film, the distinctively red creature has made subtle appearances throughout the series. The question arises: Is this a significant comeback as the main antagonist in The Red Door, or are we merely being treated to another fleeting glimpse? The anticipation grows as we await further revelations.

Leigh Whannell, James Wan, and Jason Blum continue their involvement in the film, but a notable change takes place as Patrick Wilson assumes the role of director for this installment. Wilson’s elevated position adds an intriguing dynamic to the project, showcasing his creative influence in a new way.

In a recent feature for Empire, Patrick Wilson elaborated on his unique vision for Insidious, highlighting how it diverges from the previous iterations. Wilson expressed his intentions to offer a fresh perspective, providing audiences with an experience that distinguishes itself from what has been seen in the franchise thus far.

“I’ve seen this movie on the page for so long that I knew exactly what I wanted,” he wrote.

“This being a movie with Dalton and Josh dealing with trauma, balancing the light and dark in their life, it’s very heavy stuff and doesn’t lend itself to jump-scares.

“I didn’t want to emulate James [Wan], or be more like him. So there’s a tonal dread.”

The theatrical release of Insidious: The Red Door is scheduled for July 7th.
