Josh Gad is updating fans on Shrunk, the sequel to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids franchise.
Rick Moranis is slated to return as scientist Wayne Szalinski after the sequel’s announcement in 2020. However, there has been little development since then. On the other hand, Gad turned to Twitter to answer fans’ burning questions and provide a history of how the film has faced setbacks.
Gad’s tweet briefly explains the hurdles faced in resurrecting this franchise:
“A lot of u ask me what’s going on with this film,” Gad tweeted. “Truth is, we were inches from starting and then COVID hit, inches from starting again & then my schedule exploded with conflicts, inches from starting again & budget got the best of us. If you want it, let your local @disney know.

Joe Johnston’s 1989 family film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is about an inventor who accidentally shrinks his children. The reboot would revolve around Gad, one of Szalinski’s children who aspires to be an inventor like his father.
The TV show Shrunk was delayed in 2020 due to Covid-19, which affected the productions of many other movies and TV shows.
The first film was followed by Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, released in 1992. Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves was released direct-to-video in 1997.
In 1997, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids was adapted into a syndicated television series, with Peter Scolari playing Wayne Szalinski. The show aired for three seasons, each consisting of 22 episodes.
