The post featured a video where she wore fluffy heels, imitating the memorable shot of Margot Robbie’s arched foot in the Barbie trailer. She then blew a kiss at the camera while a vibrant disco beat played in the background, accompanied by a teasing line of lyrics: “Just come along for the ride!”
With British Standard Time being five hours ahead of the East Coast, it implies that the Barbie track will reach our shores earlier than the New Music Friday, precisely at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
The announcement garnered a significant amount of positive response on social media. The official Barbie Instagram account expressed their excitement with three heart-eyes emojis, while Donatella Versace playfully commented, “She’s a Versace Barbie” with a wink and a butterfly. Mark Ronson left a string of pink heart and fire emojis in the comments, possibly suggesting his involvement in producing the track.
In addition, Dua Lipa will have a role in the forthcoming live-action film alongside Margot Robbie, who portrays the lead role of Barbie, and Ryan Gosling, who portrays the original Ken character.
The film also features an ensemble cast including Issa Rae, Nicola Coughlan, Hari Nef, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, and others, who portray different versions of the doll as well as various Kens, including Simu Liu.
Additional unexpected stars making appearances include Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Helen Mirren, Will Ferrell, and several others.
The project was helmed by Gerwig, who directed it based on a script she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach.
Robbie is actively involved in the production of the film through her production company, LuckyChap, alongside LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley.
The production of the movie will involve Robbie Brenner from Mattel Films and David Heyman, known for his work on the Paddington series, as additional producers.
The origins of the Barbie project trace back to 2009, with Sony initially enlisting Diablo Cody to pen the script in 2014. Two years later, Amy Schumer was announced as the lead, with a screenplay by Hilary Winston.
Nonetheless, the project underwent a developmental phase until it was taken over by Warner Bros. and Robbie in 2018. Initially, they had their sights set on Patty Jenkins to helm the directorial responsibilities.
The release date for “Barbie” has been scheduled for July 21, when it will make its way to theaters.
